August -- 7:00am to 6:00pm -- Farmers and Artists Market -- A Non-profit community Farmers and Artists Market 7 days a week at the Sunshine Station. This is a great drive from Las Vegas or Pecos to exit 323 off I-25. After you have shopped at the Market there are other fun things to do further up on Highway 3; such as San Miguel de Vado Church, La Risa Cafe, Madison Winery, Villanueva State Park and more. August 6 -- 10:00am to 4:00pm -- Places with a Past -- Places with a Past is a Historic Sites Tour - This tour includes several of the historical buildings in Las Vegas and the Montezuma Castle, a Fred Harvey House. August 6 through 14-- 10:00am to 4:00pm -- Las Vegas Heritage Week -- Heritage Week consists of many Las Vegas organizations providing tours, programs and special events that celebrate the City of Las Vegas' Heritage. The week begins with the Places with a Past, Historic Sites Tour and ends with the Peoples Fair, a two day event with art and crafts vendors, music, children's activities, food and much more. August 7 -- Pecos Feast Day -- Visit Pecos National Historical Park and join in the celebration of the feast of Nuestra Señora de Los Angeles de Porciuncula de los Pecos, patroness of the Pecos Pueblo Mission.

August 11 through 14 -- 10:00am to 5:00pm -- San Miguel/Mora County Fair -- Registration for this event will be conducted on August 11th. The San Miguel County Extension Office sponsors this event at the San Miguel County Fair Grounds. The Fair Grounds has a brand new building that houses animals and now has a new show ring. There is a livestock show and sale, indoor exhibits featuring sewing, gardening, and baking. Add a mud volley ball tournament, judging of steers, lambs, goats, poultry. Add rabbits, a chile cook-off, and a pack horse race and you have the recipe for a fun filled day for the entire family. August 13 -- Second Saturday Artwalk 2011 -- Second Saturday ArtWalk celebrates Las Vegas as a state designated Arts & Cultural District featuring Open Studios, Galleries, Readings, Live Music & more. Visit galleries, shops and restaurants in historic downtown Las Vegas. Enjoy the work of over 75 artists, including local painters, sculptors, jewelry designers, graphic designers, photographers, musicians, interior designers, writers, poets, santeros, media artists and graffiti artists. The ArtWalk is a monthly, authentic grassroots community art event presented by the artists, residents and businesses of Las Vegas. August 13 & 14 -- 10:00am to 5:00pm -- The People's Faire -- This event is sponsored by the Las Vegas Arts Council and is attended by vendors from all over the state. There are arts and crafts booths selling jewelry, art of all mediums, baked goods, home canned goods and much more. Live music, traditional Spanish Dances, face painting and children's games add to the fun of this event. The location of this event is Carnegie Park. August 18 -- 7:00pm -- Glimpses of the Past: -- Fort Union National Monument, National Park Service announces its’ monthly “Glimpses of the Past” presentation. Join Fort Union, Santa Fe Trail Interpretive Center, and CCHP located at 116 Bridge Street in Las Vegas for these monthly presentations that encompass the bountiful natural, cultural, and historical resources of the Southwest. August 20 -- 7:00am to 6:00pm -- CCHP Walking Tours -- The tours will cover Bridge Street and the Plaza Park. Tours will start at CCHP, 116 Bridge Street and will last approximately one hour. The cost of the tours is $10 per person. After the month of August, CCHP will be offering tours for the rest of the year for small groups. Reservations will be required for these small group tours. August 20 -- Dusk -- Fort Union: Candlelight Tours -- Step under the stars of a large prairie frontier sky for our Candlelight Tours. The evening will have historical based skits once the sun goes down. Tours are limited to fifteen per tour so please call ahead to reserve your spot.
