May 1 -- 8:00am to 8:00pm -- First Annual Cinco de Mayo -- This special event will be held at the Abe Montoya Recreation Center. There will be lots of family fun events, such as, the inflatable bounce, cake walk games/prizes, arts and crafts, live music (Noon - 5:00pm), and concession stand. There will also be a 3 on 3 basket ball tournament, a 4 on 4 coed volleyball tournament, a coed mush ball tournament, and much more. Fees will be charged for the three tournaments. May 1 -- 10:00am, 12:30pm, and 3:30pm -- Bowl For Kids' Sake 2010 -- Get your team together for Bowl For Kids' Sake 2010, and our first ever - Las Vegas Community Wii Bowl! Bowl For Kids' Sake is Big Brothers Big Sisters' largest annual campaign, bringing in both funds and awareness for the program, which helps local kids reach their potential by matching them with a caring adult mentor. It’s a great way to support an organization that makes an enormous difference in the lives of local children. May 8 -- Second Saturday Artwalk 2010 -- Now in its third year the monthly Artwalk features Open Studios, Galleries, Readings, Live Music & more. Visit open studios in historic neighborhoods, plus galleries, shops and restaurants downtown. Enjoy the work of over 75 artists, including local painters, sculptors, jewelry designers, graphic designers, photographers, musicians, interior designers, writers, poets, santeros, media artists and graffiti artists. The Artwalk is a monthly, authentic grassroots community art event presented by the artists, residents and businesses of Las Vegas. May 12 -- 11:00am to 6:00pm -- Flower Power -- The Flower Power event is scheduled at the perfect time for all gardeners to pick up their flower seedlings for the summer season; The seedlings are selected for this climate zone and will do well in this area. May 15 -- No Mercy Mud Bog -- The Mud Boggy will be held at the Santa Fe Trail Event Center located on the corner of Airport Road and Hwy 50. This is an exciting event and fun for the entire family. May 15 -- 9:00am to Noon -- 19th Annual Kiwanis Bike Safety Rodeo -- The Bike Safety Rodeo is a must for all young cyclist, ages 5 -12. $5.00 includes a a new helmet, $1.00 if you wear your own helmet. May 16 -- 1:00pm -- Butterfly Talk and Gallinas Canyon Walk -- Butterfly Talk and Gallinas Canyon Walk with Steve Cary. Immediately after the talk, Gary will lead the group on a butterfly and wildflower walk into the Gallinas Canyon. Wear sturdy walking shoes, bring sun hat, sun screen, walking stick, snack lunch, drinking water. May 16 -- 2:00pm to 6:00pm -- Casa de Cultura Benefit Dance -- The Dance will feature Ernestine Romero and Mal Sangre, Albuquerque's Top Tex-Mex Conjunto Band and New Mexico Music. May 16 -- 3:00pm -- Recital -- MARCOS VIGIL, TENOR, a Las Vegas native, accompanied by LINDA KING, PIANO, will perform works by SCHUMANN, SCHUBERT, DUPARC, BRITTEN, VERDI, BELLINI, DONIZETTI, DE FALLA, TURINA, and OBRADORS. This is a fundraising recital to help cover costs for the Martina Arroyo Foundation's "Prelude to Performance" 2010 Summer Program in New York City and Canadian Vocal Arts Institute in Montreal. This is part of the international Vocal Arts Institute, headed by Joan Dornerman, Assistant Conductor at the Met. May 20 -- 7:00pm -- Fort Union - “Glimpses of the Past” -- Fort Union National Monument presents, Dr. Irene Blea, Northern NM Villages the Santa Fe Trail at the Citizens Committee for Historic Preservation located at 116 Bridge Street. Dr. Blea will review places and people not very well known outside of Northern New Mexico: Ocate, Springer, Loma Parda, Watrous, Cimmaron, Reyado, and Miami. The monthly “Glimpses of the Past” programs are free of charge, in cooperation with Citizens Committee for Historic Preservation. May 31 -- 7:00pm -- Cleveland Roller Mill Museum hosts “Dorthea Lange" -- Cleveland Roller Mill Museum hosts “Dorthea Lange: Historic Route 66 and the Great Depression Photographic exhibition" Through Labor Day Weekend. This exhibit is consists of a selection of photographs taken from 1935-1939 she made while employed by the US Government during the Great Depression. These photographs were provided by the New Mexico Chapter of the National New Deal Preservation Association. (NNDPA-NM). Kathy Flynn is the curator of this exhibit. The Cleveland Roller Mill Museum's 2010 season hours are 10:00am to - 3:00pm on weekends -- Memorial Day Weekend until Labor Day Weekend.
