July 1 -- 7:30pm -- “Cineflix in Ilfeld” featuring “Pink Panther 2” -- This event is held at the Historic Ilfeld Auditorium on the campus of New Mexico Highlands University. The movie is a Comedy, G. Admission is FREE and open to the public!

July 2 through 5 -- 121st Annual Fiestas de Las Vegas -- This is Las Vegas oldest and most colorful event which highlights culture and celebration. There are parades, arts and crafts booths, food vendors, live music, dancing in the streets, veterans' events, fireworks and much more. Most events take place at the Plaza Park. July 3 -- Las Vegas Memorial Run -- The Las Vegas Fiesta Council, Inc. Announces The Las Vegas Memorial Run in Las Vegas, New Mexico. July 3 -- 6:00am to 11:00am -- Meadow City Aerie #3815 Fishing Derby -- The Fishing Derby will be held at Harris Pond east of the Alta Vista Regional Hospital. Entry forms will be filled out at the Derby, not before. Participants should be twelve and under. Prizes will be awarded and participants should bring their own fishing equipment. July 3 through 5 -- PAL Art Show & Sale -- The Pendaries Art League presents its sixth annual PAL Art Show & Sale at the Community Center at Pendaries Village.
Opening Reception:  July 3, 5:00pm - 7:00pm
Exhibit Open:  July 4, 10:00am - 5:00pm and July 5, 10:00am - 3:00pm.
Artists in a variety of media will be participating:  oil painting, water color, photography, jewelry, diachronic glass, leather goods, etc.  A new feature this year will be Art to Go, a table of items that cost $50 or less. For more information check out the Event Flyer.

July 10 & 11 -- North/South All Star Games -- The North/South All Star Games attract locals from Las Vegas and families from all over the state. The girls basketball teams will play at Wilson Gym at 6:00 pm on July 10 and the boys basketball team will play at 8:00 pm on the same day. On July 11 the football game will be played at Perkins Stadium at 7:00 pm. Contact (505)429-2319 or for more information.

July 10 through August 31 -- 5:00pm to 7:00pm -- Fridays al Fresco -- This is an event that all the locals enjoy and you will too. The event begins Friday the 10th of July and is scheduled every Friday through the end of August at Plaza Park. July 11 -- 10:00 am -- -- Second Saturdays Artwalk/Las Vegas, NM -- The New Mexico Arts and Cultural District is promoting this popular event. Second Saturdays Artwalk is an authentic grass roots community event taking place every Second Saturday in the three historic commercial districts of Las Vegas ( from the Plaza Park to the Depot). Various events begin at 10:00am and end at 9:00pm throughout the districts and in artist studios through town. July 11 & 12 -- 9:00am -- -- San Miguel County 4-H Rodeo -- The Rodeo is being held at the Santa Fe Trail Events Center which is located at the corner of Airport Road and State Road 250. It is open to all 4-H rodeo project members ages 9 to 19 throughout the state. Some of the more popular events are steer wrestling, team roping, bareback and saddleback bronco riding and bull riding. July 13 through 18 -- The Missoula Children's Theatre -- The nations largest children's theatre is returning to Las Vegas with a production of Robinson Crusoe. This will be an exciting and rewarding experience for young people from the first grade through high school to participate in. Nothing prepared will be required for auditions beginning on July 13th at 10:00am and after casting. Rehearsal will begin at 12:30pm and will last until 2:30pm. This rehearsal schedule will continue each day for the rest of the week. The production will be held at 7:00pm at Ilfeld auditorium on Saturday July 18. July 16 -- 7:00pm -- Fort Union Glimpses from the Past -- This month’s Glimpses from the Past program will feature Superintendent Marie Sauter of Fort Union National Monument. Sauter has nearly completed three years as the head of the park will provide the community a status of the Monument. The program will be held free to the public at the Santa Fe Trail Interpretive Center/CCHP at 116 Bridge Street in Las Vegas, NM. For more information see the Event Flyer.

July 17 -- 2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off - Registration Deadline! -- The San Miguel Mora County Fair Association will be hosting its 2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off. Participants must reside in either San Miguel or Mora County. An entry fee of $25 per team is required. Space is limited so reserve your space quickly by calling Bernadette at (575) 387-5965. The deadline to reserve your space is July 17th. Rules & Entry Forms can be picked up at your local County Agents office or downloaded from the link above. If your chili wins 1st place the award is $500. There will also be cash prizes awarded to 2nd & 3rd place winners! Any local Businesses that would like to contribute to the cash pot will receive a tax-deductible receipt from The San Miguel/Mora County Fair Association, have their business’s name printed on the poster to be displayed during the County Fair. July 16 -- 6:00pm -- Independent Business Alliance Training -- The Las Vegas First Independent Business Alliance welcomes Jeff Milchen, co-founder of the American Independent Business Alliance, and a leading advocate for community-based businesses who will speak at the Plaza Hotel Ballroom. Members of Las Vegas First IBA, members of other organizations, and the public are all invited to attend. Information will be available about local efforts to establish a strong business organization.

July 17 -- 8:00am - Noon -- Independent Business Alliance Training -- The Las Vegas First Independent Business Alliance welcomes Jeff Milchen, co-founder of the American Independent Business Alliance, and a leading advocate for community-based businesses who will speak at the City Council Chambers at City Hall. Members of Las Vegas First IBA, members of other organizations, and the public are all invited to attend. Information will be available about local efforts to establish a strong business organization.

July 17 through August 1 -- 6:00pm to 8:00pm -- Fridays al Fresco -- Fridays al Fresco are held every Friday at the Plaza Park. This event is a favorite of the locals and you will certainly enjoy it too. Live music of all kinds that makes you feel like dancing; as a matter of fact that is exactly what many people do. July 18 through 20 -- 6:00pm to 8:00pm -- “Turning Memory into Story” -- Do you like to write? Do you have a story, a group of poems, a novel you have started but never finished? Don’t let your work, your ideas, sit in a drawer. Join the Second Annual Green River Writer’s Workshop: This is your opportunity to spend time with other writers sharing your writing, gaining new writing skills, and leaning more about the process of publishing. July 18 & 19 -- 9:00am to 4:00pm -- Cultural Encounters -- This is a two day event with living history talks and demonstrations reflecting the different cultures that existed at the fort during its history. Some of the interesting demonstrations are black powder, both rifle and cannon, Native American Dancing, lectures on hispanic culture, Buffalo Soldiers etc. Fort Union National Park is located 26 miles north of Las Vegas off interstate 25. July 24 through 26 -- Fourth Annual Rough Rider Motorcycle Rally de Las Vegas -- The Motorcycle Rally hosts many events, including a Poker Run, a Tattoo Contest, Bike Show, the Biker Rodeo and much more. There will be a variety of food vendors and live music at the Historical Plaza Park. Las Vegas and the surrounding area offers many types of activities such as exploring 900 plus historical buildings, rides in the National Forest and sampling some of the best northern New Mexico cuisine at our local restaurants. July 25 -- Fiesta de Santiago -- The Fiesta festivities will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Villanueva, NM. There will be a fiesta mass at 10:00am and a horse ride at 9:00am. There will be lots of food, live music, bingo, games, raffle drawing and the Villanueva Tapestry Tours. This will surely be a wonderful day for the entire family! July 25 -- 10:00am -- Mora Mud Bog -- The Mora Mud Boggy will be held north of Mora across from Victory Ranch (on 434). This is a fun event that is popular with all the locals. There will be food vendors, and fun for all. For more information contact (505)603-2873.

July 25 & 26 -- Mora Annual Fiesta -- The Mora Annual Fiesta has all the ingredients of the perfect fiesta. Parade, rodeo, good food, and live music. The parade is on Saturday 25 at 10:00am and there will be a rodeo at 1:00pm on Saturday and Sunday. For more information on the rodeos call (575)387-5462. July 27 through August 2 -- Las Vegas Heritage Week -- Heritage Week is crammed full of art and crafts exhibits, lectures, great shopping, walking and bus tours of historic Las Vegas. There will be music and dancing at Plaza Park, dinner with plays afterward, Places with a Past Tour and much more. July 31 -- 9:00am to 4:00pm -- Marketing “You” the Artist -- This event will take place at the Student Services Center on the campus of Luna Community College, and sponsored by the Luna Community College Small Business Development Center. Event will include Hands-on-Demonstrations and Role Playing; Learn professional techniques that can save you money and market you and your work. July 31 through August 1 -- Over the Edge II -- The Nat Gold Players will present Over the Edge II, the sequel to last year's spoof on Las Vegas. This production will be held at the Immaculate Conception School and will be presented in conjunction with a northern New Mexico traditional dinner of mutton stew, calabacitas, pinto beans and corn and apple pie.
