May 10 -- 8:00pm -- Recital at UWC -- The last concert of the 2008-2009 Season will take place in the Dining Room at Montezuma Castle on the Campus of The United World College. The concert will feature performances by UWC students and faculty. Yes, this concert is scheduled in the middle of exams, but UWC students should take a break and come anyway. Hearing good music could temporarily raise your IQ! Unless handicapped, all visitors to the United World College should park on lower campus. May 23 -- 10:30am -- Graduation at the United World College -- Special Needs Champion to Speak at United World College-USA Graduation United World College-USA announces its 2009 guest graduation speaker: Irfan Hasan, UWC-USA Class of 1985. Irfan works for the New York Community Trust as a Program Officer in the Health and People with Special Needs area. One of two staff members in the health area at the trust, Irfan oversees grant-making programs in the areas of health services, systems, and policy; children and youth with disabilities; mental health and mental retardation; and services for the blind and visually impaired. Irfan has long been an exceptional volunteer for UWC-USA and serves as Co-Chair of the US Selection Committee. The Sally Martin Prize winner (and student graduation speaker) is Will Bowman, a second-year student from Bardstown, Kentucky. The graduation ceremony will take place on the campus playing fields, and in the Field House in the case of rain. May 26 -- 3:00pm -- Memorial Day Moment of Remembrance -- This event is a flag raising ceremony with local veterans and is held at the Glorieta Pass Battlefield. The new trail through the Battlegrounds will be open during this event. The new trail is 2.3 miles long and is self guided. This event is free and the Park Service recommends that you come to the visitor center at the Pecos National Historic Park before you go to the battleground.
